Coleman Shogren and I met in 2012 when we were attending Eisenhower High School. We dated for five years before he proposed on Christmas day last year. We chose our wedding date because we started dating January 25th, 2013 and he proposed December 25th, 2017. It only made sense to continue with the 25th — so we decided to tie the knot on August 25th of this year! Our ceremony and reception were out in Tampico, Washington on his parents’ property.
It wasn’t hard to decide on the color for our wedding because we both love lavender. We love the different uses of the plant and its beautiful color. It was perfect to use when creating our invitations, picking dresses and bow ties, and creating the centerpieces. We used jute to tie hand-picked, pressed, and dried lavender to each invitation. The bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces all included lavender. Our party favors were handmade sachets of organic lavender, so our guests could remember the day from the sweet smell.
Our wedding was the ultimate DIY wedding. His parents built the arch we got married under and our families brought in the pews for our guests. The farm tables, dance floor, and covers over the food at the reception were all built just for our wedding. Every centerpiece was unique and countless hours were spent creating them.
The food included an all-you-can-eat salad bar, corn on the cob, fruit, rolls, salads from family recipes, homemade beans, and smoked brisket. Everything was made with love by different family members, except the brisket and beans, which were catered by Ron and Peggy Hannah, owners of Hannah’s Texas Style BBQ. Ron came out with his huge smoker and stayed overnight while the brisket was cooking. They are wonderful and friendly and their food is amazing!
The desserts were homemade by my mom. We had cookies, mini pies, parfaits, dessert bars, candy, and a freezer full of ice cream. It was fun to give our guests so many different options for their sweet treats.
Our bouquets and boutonnieres were created by Jan Noyes, owner of Details. She is so creative and talented at everything she does. I told her my colors and she did the rest and we couldn’t be happier with her work.
Photographers Nic Fiest and Lizzy MacDermid of NL Photo Co. were also great. They made time to come out before the wedding and check out the property, and did a wonderful job planning for all of the pictures we wanted. They sent a detailed timeline so everyone knew exactly what to be ready for. Every picture we got back from them was so beautiful and it was hard picking out a favorite!
Our wedding was so memorable because of all the love and hard work that went into making it special and beautiful. It was such a peaceful and relaxing day. God blessed us from the very start of our engagement all the way through our wedding.
