YAKIMA, Wash. — Two applicants are vying to fill a vacancy on the Yakima Valley Libraries Board of Trustees for a five-year term.

They are Robert Camarata and Del Rankin, both of Yakima. The Yakima County commissioners will appoint one to the board as early as next week, according to Commissioner Mike Leita.

Camarata is a member of the Friendship Tea group, library supporters that formerly met at the Terrace Heights Library until policies changed there. Rankin is program director of The First Tee of Yakima, a youth development program that teaches life skills through golf.

The trustee position was previously filled by James Barnhill, whose term expired in December.

Yakima Valley Libraries are comprised of a central library and 16 community libraries located throughout the county. Five trustees, each serving five-year terms, govern library policies. Current members are Melba Fujiura, president; Pamela Perryman, vice president; Jerry Maggard, secretary; and Richard Ostrander, trustee.
