Guilty pleas due next week in 2006 vandalism case

Yakima Herald-Republic

Two men accused of causing thousands of dollars of graffiti damage in downtown Yakima and throughout the city are scheduled to plead guilty next week.

The hearing had been set for Wednesday, but prosecutors held off until a Superior Court judge was available to handle the case next Thursday. It was the latest of several continuan-ces since the charges were filed two years ago.

Dennis Lee Rose Jr., 24, of Yakima and Brandon Syverson, 25, of Selah were arrested in the spring of 2006 following a graffiti spree over several weeks. They both face multiple felony counts of malicious mischief.

Police estimated damage at more than $20,000. The suspects allegedly used a destructive acid to etch their tag names -- "Nope" for Rose, "Num" for Syverson -- at a variety of locations. Some of the damage is still visible downtown.
