Rocks on the road close lanes of I-90

SNOQUALMIE PASS --
Two lanes of eastbound Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass will be closed until further notice while the state Department of Transportation repairs damage from boulders that fell on the road Monday, officials said.

The rocks, estimated to fill the back of a pickup, landed late Monday a half-mile west of the summit, according to a DOT news release.

Nobody was hurt. At least two passenger cars and a semi truck were damaged when they ran over the rocks, officials said.

Two lanes remain open in the area. The state has hired a contractor to complete repairs as soon as possible.

Stars, bluegrass sharing the stage

GOLDENDALE -- Retired astronaut Bonnie Dunbar will be the keynote speaker as this city holds a festival this weekend that combines stargazing and bluegrass music.

"Fiddlin' Around the Stars" will be Thursday through Sunday.

Dunbar, who grew up in Outlook, will visit area schools and attend a community lunch to ring in the second-year festival, which includes a combination of activities at the Goldendale Observatory and live bluegrass performances in E'Kone Park.

Prairie Flyer, Fiddlegrass and Lee Highway are a few of the bands on the lineup.

Dunbar is also the president and CEO of the Seattle Museum of Flight.

* Thursday: 6 p.m. until dusk, open mic music; 8 p.m. to midnight, Goldendale Observatory open house

* Friday: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., community lunch to welcome Dunbar at Ayutla Family Mexican Restaurant; 1-10 p.m., live bluegrass music.

* Saturday: 1-10 p.m., live bluegrass music

* Sunday: 8-10 a.m., pancake breakfast; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., live gospel music.

Fundraiser will help man with tumor

YAKIMA -- A fundraiser to benefit a Yakima man with a recurring brain tumor will be held Tuesday evening at Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

Chad Sears, 31, is battling his third tumor in eight years and is seeking an alternative treatment at a clinic in Houston, Texas. His insurance will not pay for the treatment.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., friends and family members will host a spaghetti feed and silent auction to help defray the costs. The church is at 7809 Tieton Drive. Cost is $20 at the door.
