Bat sale will benefit PYSF

Yakima Herald-Republic

The Parker Youth and Sports Foundations is taking a swing at fundraising by selling commemorative baseball bats.

The wood bats were made by Hillerich & Bradsby, the company that makes Louisville Sluggers, and honor the careers of former Yakima Valley Community baseball coach Bill Faller and former YVCC and Washington State coach Bobo Brayton.

A total of 100 bats -- 50 for both Faller and Brayton -- make up the "Grand Club," and are being sold for $1,000. Several have already been sold, according to Scott Wilson, a member of the PYSF's executive committee.

The bats will be available at Friday night's Legends Reunion at the Yakima Convention Center. The events begins with a
no-host social from 5-6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner from 6-7 p.m.

There also will be an autograph session that will include Brayton, former Seattle Mariner All-Star and WSU All-American John Olerud, Yakima mayor and former Mariner Dave Edler, Olympic skiing silver medalist Steve Mahre and Davis graduate and NCAA record-setting wide receiver Taylor Stubblefield.

Cost for Friday's event is $25 and $5 for children 12 and younger.
