WAPATO -- A 32-year-old man is hospitalized in satisfactory condition this morning after being shot in the chest outside of Wapato on Tuesday, according to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.
The incident took place about 5:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Winaway Road near Wapato. The man was standing in his driveway after someone rang his doorbell when he was struck by one shot from a handgun, deputies said.
The victim then ran to the car of a friend who had just pulled into the driveway and intially was taken to Toppenish Community Hospital before being sent to Yakima Regional Cardiac and Medical Center, where he was listed in satisfactory condition, according to deputies.
The victim told police that he didn't know the gunman, who he described as wearing a blue bandana over his face. The suspect vehicle was described as a maroon four door, possibly an import, with tinted windows. It was heading north on North Track Road, toward Wapato.
