A rumored candidate for an open seat on the Yakima City Council said he's not going to apply for the position.

Ron Anderson of Creekside Realty said in a message that he's too busy handling sales of The Lofts condos in downtown Yakima to set aside time for council.

"It's just going to consume all my time to take care of all of that," he said, adding, "I am not in the running for City Council."

Anderson's name was one of several mentioned by members of the City Council as possible replacements for state representative-elect Norm Johnson.

Johnson, who was elected last week to the state House, has said he intends to resign his seat on the council before the 2009 Legislature convenes on Jan. 12.

So far two rumored candidates -- businessmen Larry Hull and Juven Garcia -- have confirmed they intend to apply for the opening.

The council, which is a 7-member board, began taking applications Wednesday.
