60 Minutes will feature interviews with Marchese Piero Antinori and his three daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia, who are involved in all aspects of the family business. The program also tours the family’s historic estates in Tuscany, Umbria and California. They are partners in the Col Solare winery with Ste. Michelle Wine Estates.
The Antinoris are the first winemakers to be profiled by 60 Minutes in the past 26 years and just the third producer to be featured in program's 40-year history. Weekly audience is estimated at 16 million viewers.
Marchesi Antinori is a family-owned wine producer in Tuscany which began in the 12th century. Officially, Giavanni di Piero Antinori joined the Florentine Vintners Guild in 1385. Marchese Piero Antinori, the 25th generation president of the company, has played a key role in the preservation of Italy’s enological traditions. Piero Antinori’s daughters Albiera, Allegra and Alessia -- the 26th generation -- now are involved in all aspects of Marchesi Antinori.
Although winemaking is based at estates throughout Tuscany and Umbria, the family also produces Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon at Antica Napa Valley, its picturesque hillside estate in California.
“This is an exceptional moment for the Antinori family in the U.S.,” Ted Baseler, president of Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, said in a news release. “Wine lovers who have enjoyed their wines for years now will see the history of quality and innovation at the family’s estates in Italy and the U.S.”
Antinori and Ste. Michelle opened the new Col Solare facility in 2007. The celebration featured Piero Antinori. Groundbreaking ceremonies included Piero and Albiera Antinori.
Ste. Michelle is the importer of Antinori wines in the U.S., and Antinori markets Ste. Michelle wines in Italy.
