Curtis scores two goals to lead WV past La Salle

Junior Haley Curtis punched in two goals and goalkeeper Lee Hanses earned a shutout as West Valley opened its girls soccer season with a 3-0 non-league victory over La Salle on Saturday at Cottonwood Field.

After a scoreless first half, freshman Jaden Gjestram got the Rams on the board with a goal in the 57th minute. Ashley Richardson, Kelsey Dahlquist and Chelsea Nell assisted on WV's three tallies.

The Rams open CBBN play Tuesday at Davis while La Salle visits Highland for a non-league contest.

Vikings unbeaten in Ike Jamboree

In a four-team preseason warm-up, Selah went 6-0 in a jamboree that included Eisenhower, West Valley and Davis on Saturday at Ike Gym.

League play starts for all four teams next week. The CBBN opens Tuesday with Davis at West Valley and Hanford at Eisenhower, and Selah starts CWAC play Thursday at Ephrata.

Final standings: Selah 6-0, Eisenhower 4-2, Davis 1-5, West Valley 1-5

Round 1: Eisenhower d. West Valley 25-22, 25-23; Selah d. Davis 25-7, 25-9.

ZILLAH JAMBOREE: Granger won four of six games for the day, defeating Toppenish 25-22, 25-20, 22-25 and Wapato 26-24, 23-25, 25-13.

Sam Zapien (9 kills), Janae Klarich (12 assists) and Rosa Bojorquez (33 digs) led the Spartans.
