Worship conference set for this weekend
The new Yakima Valley Worship Network is hosting its first Yakima Worship Conference this weekend.
The event continues from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. It concludes Sunday with a 6 p.m. concert.
The guest speaker and concert performer is the Rev. Ross Parsley, executive worship pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Workshops take place at West Side Baptist Church, 6901 Summitview Ave. Sunday's concert is at Stone Church, 3303 Englewood Ave. in Yakima.
The concert is free and open to the public. The conference costs $30 at the door. Today's lunch will be provided.

Songbirds wanted for Chancel Choir
Yakima's Bethlehem Lutheran Church has openings in its Chancel Choir.
Practices begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the church, 801 Tieton Drive. Church membership isn't a requirement to be in the choir.

'Concert for the King' at Randall Park today
A "Concert for the King" will be held in Yakima's Randall Park today.
The free praise and worship event runs from noon to 10 p.m. in the park, located between 44th and 48th avenues, south of Nob Hill Boulevard.
Several local churches and music groups, representing a variety of denominations and musical genres, will provide the sounds for the celebration.
Performers include West Valley Foursquare Church worship team, contemporary; Shiloh Christian Center worship team, contemporary; Full Gospel Church worship team, country gospel; Gospel Messengers, gospel quartet; West Valley Foursquare Church Youth worship team, contemporary; Bryson and Jess Foster, hip-hop; Second Chance Band, contemporary; The Conversation, contemporary; and Westside Worship, contemporary.
Sponsors include West Valley Foursquare Church, Shiloh Christian Center, Full Gospel Church, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, West Side Baptist Church, MBC-Yakima, West Valley Church of the Nazarene, Yakima Foursquare Church and Stone Church.
Performances take place creekside, near the 48th Avenue entrance. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring their own food and beverages, picnic-style.

Cross Church hosting circus as fundraiser
Step right up!
The Cross Church, one of the region's oldest Southern Baptist churches, is hosting the Carson & Barnes Circus.
The circus, held in conjunction with the 27th annual Antique Farm Equipment Expo, takes place today and Sunday at Fullbright Park in Union Gap.
The circus is a fundraiser for the church.
The money will be used for outreach ministries such as children's camp, youth camp, short-term mission programs, and the "Feeding of the 5,000," the church's free annual Thanksgiving meal held at Davis High School. At last year's event, church volunteers served more than 1,000 dinners.
Sponsors of the circus include Hurst, Brumback & Brusic, Alliant Communications, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Maf Industries Pacific Northwest, Magic Metals, Elliott Insurance and the Central Washington Antique Farm Equipment Club.
There are two shows per day. Showtimes today are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday showtimes are 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The cost is $6 per child and $12 per adult.
The church benefits most from advance ticket sales. Circusgoers can get tickets at any of the three Wray's Food & Drug stores.

Vacation Bible school set at Naches Presbyterian
Naches Presbyterian Church is hosting vacation Bible school beginning Monday.
The theme is "Christ's Miracles." Activities include Bible stories, crafts, games and music. Children ages 4 through sixth grade are invited to attend.
The program runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Teen Challenge group visiting Parker Heights
Teen Challenge is coming to Parker Heights.
The faith-based organization is aimed at helping men 18 years old and older who have been affected by problems such as alcohol and drugs.
A group of men whose lives have been changed by the ministry of Teen Challenge will be visiting Parker Heights Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
They will give their testimonies and lead the worship service. A special offering will be collected to help support the program.

Selah church still has kindergarten openings
Bible Baptist Christian School of Selah has a few more kindergarten openings for the fall.
The school, in its 39th year, features a Reading Readiness Program that teaches students how to read using phonics and other interactive methods.

Citywide baptism is today at Franklin Park
Several churches are hosting a citywide baptism at Franklin Park today.
The event begins at 3 p.m. with hot dogs and other food and beverages. From 5 to 7 p.m., baptisms will be performed in Franklin Pool, located in the park at Tieton Drive and South 20th Avenue. Everyone's invited.
Eight Yakima-area churches and organizations are sponsoring the event. They are Breakthrough Christian Center, Victory Outreach, West Valley Foursquare Church, Solid Rock Family Worship Center, Healing Rooms of Yakima, Tree of Life Christian Center, Yakima Christian Center and Mountain Top International.
