YAKIMA -- Hidden Lakes, a 161-lot gated community that developers say will fill a demographic need in rapidly growing West Valley, is headed for final city approval.

Hearing Examiner Gary Cuillier indicated Thursday he will recommend the city approve the project at the intersection of South 72nd and West Washington avenues.

Cuillier announced his intent following a brief hearing at City Hall which only the applicants attended.

The 38-acre project is a planned development that allows for two gated entrances, more narrow private streets, and sidewalks that are at street level to provide a more neighborhood feel. It also features an extensive network of walking paths, a central clubhouse and pool, and eight acres of open space.

The project will cater to active retirees with homeowners of age 55 and older accounting for 80 percent of the residents.
