WAPATO -- Several residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross after a fire Saturday destroyed two homes on Dogwood Lane outside of Wapato, firefighters said.
The fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. at an older mobile home at 260 Dogwood, according to a news release from Yakima County Fire District 5. It quickly spread to the neighboring property, where heat started the outside on fire and then gutted the interior, Capt. Mark Oaks said.
Several vehicles also burned.
Two adults and two children in the second home were being assisted by the Red Cross; the status of two adults in the mobile home was unclear.
Damage was estimated at $90,000.
The cause remained under investigation by the Yakima County fire marshal's office. Oaks said initial reports indicated the fire was not suspicious.
