Juan Acosta
Juan Acosta, 52, of Grandview died Sunday.
Mr. Acosta was born in Hanford, Calif., and received his education in Sunnyside. He was a semitruck driver for 35 years and also a hyster driver at various warehouses in the Valley. He was also a mechanic, auto body repairman and painter.
Survivors include his wife, Eugenia Acosta of Grandview; a daughter, Maria De La Luz Acosta of Grandview; a brother, Rudy Acosta; and two sisters, Beatrice Cardenas and Mary Cardenas.
Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, Grandview. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Iglesia De Dios Nueva Jerusaien in Grandview. Burial will follow in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Betty Jean Beasley
Betty Jean Beasley, 79, of Yakima died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Beasley was born in Spokane. She was an administrative assistant for the city of Spokane. She lived in Yakima for the last eight years.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickey Brons of Selah; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Burial will take place in Pine Cemetery in Spokane.
Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Fred L. Carter
Fred L. Carter, 90, of Yakima died Sunday at home.
Mr. Carter was born in Tellico Plains, Tenn., and moved to Yakima County in 1938. He worked as a warehouse foreman, packing foreman, warehouse superintendent, warehouse manager, and as a district manager in fruit warehouses.
Survivors include a sister, Ada Menard; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. today at Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors' Greenside Room.
Philip Truman Scott
Philip Truman Scott, 84, of Yakima died Saturday at Willow Springs Care Center.
Mr. Scott was born in Yakima and served in the Army from 1943-1945. He was a teacher and principal for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Scott of Yakima; two sons, Robert Scott of Spokane and Gregory Scott of Yakima; a daughter, Leslie Shaw of Yakima; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held including a 21-gun salute.
Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Rosie Sheppard
Rosie Sheppard, 89, of Sunnyside died Saturday in Gresham, Ore.
Mrs. Sheppard was born in Outlook.
Survivors include a son, Ken Sheppard of Sunnyside; a daughter, Donnita Bieber of Gresham; a sister, Lea Kortge of The Dalles, Ore.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private interment will be in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. on July 12 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sunnyside.
Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, is in charge of arrangements.
Deloris A. Stickney
Deloris A. Stickney, 77, of Moxee died Monday.
Mrs. Stickney was born in Bismarck, N.D.
Survivors include her husband, Russel Frank Stickney of Moxee; two sons, Don O'Conner of Ellensburg and Allen Fearon of Yakima; and her brother, Harold Calkins of Seattle.
Cremations arrangements are under the care and direction of Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
Virginia May Woodburn
Virginia May Woodburn, 100, of Selah died Monday at Riverview Manor.
Mrs. Woodburn was born in Mosley Junction, Va. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Dean Woodburn of Selah and Jerry Woodburn of Yakima; a daughter, Virgie Ricker of Lacey, Wash.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
At the family's request, there will be no services.
Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima is in charge of arrangements.
John W. 'Jack' Luther
John W. "Jack" Luther, 71, of Selah died Monday at home.
Mr. Luther was born in Vandergrift, Pa. He worked for Grumpy's sporting goods store on South First Street in Yakima for 15 years. He also taught fly tying and fly fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Luther of Selah; two sons, Philip Luther and Kurt Luther, both of Yakima; a daughter, Jacqueline Martin of Bellingham, Wash.; three granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
A celebration of life is pending with time and place to be announced.
Keith and Keith Funeral Home is in charge of cremation arrangements.
Jewell Waddill
Jewell Waddill, 92, of Richland died Tuesday.
Mrs. Waddill was born in Princeton, Mo. She worked as a cook/waitress in the Toppenish and Wapato area for many years.
Survivors include a son, Bill Tinnen of Yakima; a daughter, Shirley Garcia of West Richland; and a sister, Mary Kinney of Yakima.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Zillah City Cemetery.
