YAKIMA -- Yakima firefighters put out an attic blaze in a house in the 1900 block of Willow Street on Sunday evening that they said was caused by overheated wiring.

They reminded homeowners that increased demand on air conditioning during hot weather can overheat electrical wires if the unit's power exceeds the capabilities of the wiring systems.

The residents reported smelling smoke in recent days and called the fire department after seeing light smoke coming from the roof.

No one was injured in the fire, which took 16 firefighters to extinguish. There were no working smoke detectors in the house.

A portion of the roof was removed to extinguish the fire.

The estimated loss is $10,000. The owners will be temporarily relocating to their RV on the same property.
