ELLENSBURG -- A series of educational mini-documentaries produced by Central Washington University's multimedia technology and instructional support won a regional Emmy Award at a ceremony held in Seattle over the weekend.
The award was granted by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Northwest Chapter.
The series, "Moments in American History," consists of 35 mini-documentaries designed to improve knowledge, teaching skills and student appreciation of American history. The production covers U.S. history from 1750 to present.
Chris Smart, coordinator for media production and development for CWU, produced and directed the documentary series in conjunction with the Thorp School District.
The series was nomi-nated in two categories and won the Emmy for Advanced Media -- Children, Youth and Teens category.
The production was financed with a U.S. Department of Education history grant and developed over a three-year period.
The series has been distributed to every school district in Washington state, the department of education in all 50 states, and to approximately 300 universities nationwide. Additionally, the DVD has been sent to history teachers, museums and libraries throughout the Pacific Northwest.
