The Sammamish Republican, who lost the thrice-recounted 2004 gubernatorial election by fewer than 150 votes to Chris Gregoire, plans to file online for a rematch during a campaign swing through the city. He will begin the visit with a 9 a.m. speech to a Disabled American Veterans convention at the Howard Johnson hotel on Ninth Street.

Crash blocks Lincoln Avenue

YAKIMA -- A Lincoln Avenue intersection was temporarily blocked Wednesday night when a driver crashed into the concrete dividers leading to Pierce Avenue.

A woman was driving a Toyota east on Lincoln about 9:10 p.m. when the car slammed into one of the barriers, pushing it into the road and blocking both lanes to Pierce from Lincoln, officers said.

Police were still investigating why the woman crashed.

City street crews were expected to reposition the barriers fairly quickly. Traffic was diverted around the intersection during the repairs.

The woman was being checked at a city hospital for injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, police said.
