Brooklyn Baseball teams take second place

YAKIMA -- The Brooklyn Baseball Club's 12-U and 13-U teams both finished second in the Yakima Mothers Day Tournament last weekend at Kiwanis Park.

The 13-U team started 5-0, outscoring the opposition 66-16, before losing 11-9 to the Seattle Sting in the championship game.

The 12-U team had to play four elimination games Sunday to reach the final, where they lost the the Spokane Vipers.

Brooklyn 13-U team members are Carson Petrea, Zane Guess, Derek Swearingen, Mason Hall, Kody Ergeson, Tony Saiz, Lavonte Allen, Daniel Kloster, Carlos Vijarro, Johnny Adams, Bobby Salinas, Calvin Maya, Trey Sefl.

Brooklyn 12-U members are Brandon Cox, Kyle Crow, Taylor Logan, Matthew Hauck, Zack Stone, Garrhett Petrea, Cameron Campbell, Damon Nester, Asa Ryan, Daniel Gregory, Joe Miller, Eric Sauve, Travis Frymier, Jordan Marquez & Chris Alcazar.

 

BASKETBALL

Yakima sixth-grade girls take seventh

The Yakima Valley sixth-grade girls basketball team took seventh place at the Best of the West AAU tournament this past weekend. Yakima Valley lost to Y.E.A. of Seattle 50-40 in the game for sixth and seventh place.

Yakima Valley defeated the Suquamish Wolfpack, Blaze of Seattle, and Seattle Hoopaholics, but lost to eventual fourth-place finisher PS Flight 204 Gold in pool play.

Team members are Brittnee Behurst, Tara Bremer, Andrea Castro, Mikaela Cleveringa, Alexia Chavez, Kiesha Garcia-Stubbs, Kristen Morning Gun-Briggs, Brooks John, Alyssa Pena, Toni Sandoval and Alamarae Swan. The coaches are Tony Sandoval and Will Stubbs.

VOLLEYBALL

Cascade teams finish first, second

The Cascade Junior U-14 and U-13 girls volleyball teams finished first and second, respectively, in their divisions in the May Flowers Tournament on May 4 in Grandview.

Both teams, which are sponsored by Yakima Valley Community College, won their respective pools and eventually reached the championship matches. The U-14 team was first, with the U-13 team taking second.

U-14 team members are Felina Razey, Lauren Brandt, Chelsea Croshaw, Lauren Dawson, Rachel Gasseling, Samantha McCrumb, Samantha Simmons, Regine Standley and Addie Stewart. The coach is Elaine Razey.

U-13 team members are Kailee Wood, Maddie Burge, Maci Beierle, Kassidy Ruggles, Abriah Isaac, Leigh-Ann Purdy, Caitlin Myers, Lexi Patterson, and Allison Torres. The coach is Darci Dekker.
