Agriculture

The Washington Apple Education Foundation elected a new board of directors during its recent annual meeting. Tom Stokes, chief executive officer of Tree Top Inc. of Selah, has been named chairman of the board of directors. He succeeds Chris Schlect of Yakima, who retired from the board.

Ruth Pringle of Naches was elected vice chair.

The foundation fosters educational opportunities, encourages academic excellence and promotes awareness of the value of the state's tree-fruit industry.

 

Banking

Columbia River Bank loan officer David Freshwater has been transferred from the bank's Sunnyside branch to the new Yakima branch on Fifth Avenue in Yakima.

For the past two years, Freshwater has worked in the Sunnyside branch specializing in agricultural lending.

The bank plans to open its new branch at 10 N. Fifth Ave. in late May or early June.

 

Also at Columbia River Bank, senior credit analyst Jill Christianson has been promoted to loan officer.

A 16-year veteran in the banking business, Christianson has been with Columbia River Bank for two years.

She is a graduate of Central Washington University with a degree in business administration and a specialty in finance.

 

Suzanne Williams, a financial adviser at Yakima Valley Credit Union, has received two awards for performance and contribution to the financial services industry.

She received excellence awards for insurance and investment services at a recent national meeting.

 

Education

Linda Johnson of Yakima, a Washington State University certified business adviser, has been recognized by the Small Business Administration for her work with clients in 2007.

Johnson received the Network Star Performer. Johnson, whose office is at the Greater Yakima Area Chamber of Commerce, assisted 116 clients last year. She helped them access more than $2 million in capital that created or retained 29 jobs.

 

Investment

Marcelle Winn has been promoted to branch office administrator at the Edward D. Jones office at 56th and Summitview avenues.

Winn was promoted after completing the firm's in-depth training program. She has lived in Yakima almost two years.

 

Dave Dion of Yakima has received the President's Volunteer Service Award from RBC Wealth Management.

RBC Wealth Management is a certifying organization for the award, instituted by President Bush.

Dion was recognized for his wide-ranging volunteer efforts, including being a board of directors member for the Yakima Rotary Club, Wellness House and Perry Technical Institute Foundation; and his service on advisory boards for the Yakima Schools Foundation and the American Red Cross. Dion also has co-chaired the John McAlister Crystal Apple Awards and assisted the planning committee for LaCasa Hogar's upcoming fundraiser.

 

Legal

West H. Campbell has joined the law firm of Velikanje Halverson, P.C. as a partner.

Campbell will focus on civil litigation, mediation and arbitration with the firm.

He is a graduate of the University of Washington with an undergraduate degree in history. He obtained his law degree from the Seattle University School of Law and was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1979.

He previously was a partner in a Portland litigation firm. He is a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and previously served as a representative to the Board of Governors of the Washington State Bar Association.
