Prep baseball -- Edwards leads WV in regional win

YAKIMA -- Cody Edwards struck out 10 in six innings and clubbed a three-run homer to lead West Valley to a 7-3 victory over East Valley of Spokane in a 3A regional loser-out game on Tuesday.

The Rams (11-10) advance to play at Mount Spokane (9-12) on Friday at 4 p.m. In the championship bracket, Mount Spokane lost to Kennewick 4-2 on Tuesday.

Six of West Valley's seven base hits went for extra bases. In addition to Edwards' blast, teammates Kevin Allan and Josh Eaton hit solo homers.

In Tuesday's other games, Kamiakin clipped Southridge 2-1 and Hanford eliminated North Central 6-1.

CBL 4A PLAYOFF

MOSES LAKE 4, PASCO 2: At Moses Lake, the Chiefs earned the No. 2 seed to district and with it a first-round bye and homefield site for the first day.

Davis, the No. 6 seed, will play No. 3 Pasco in a 1 p.m. loser-out game Friday at Moses Lake. The winner will play Moses Lake at 4 p.m. in a semifinal.

In the other half of the bracket Friday at Richland, fifth-seeded Eisenhower will play No. 4 Wenatchee at 1 p.m. The winner will play the league-champion Bombers at 4 p.m.

All four of the semifinal teams move to Richland on Saturday.

SELAH 5, WAPATO 2: At Selah, Jacob Shaw threw a three-hitter and Cody Collier and Justin Chavez had two hits each for the Vikings (18-3), who host Ellensburg on Friday in a 4 p.m. semifinal that qualifies the winner for state.

Ethan Sterkel went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI and struck out six while allowing one hit in four innings.

Paul Martinez and Drew Jesse hit two-run shots, and Rigo Pruneda added a solo homer for the Cougars.

Goldendale (14-5) will play the loser of the Connell-Burbank game on Friday.
