Friday, April 25-Saturday, April 26
* "Bookbound," the original play written by local dentist and community actor Kurt Labberton, opens at 8 tonight at the Warehouse Theatre in the Allied ArtsCenter, 5000 W. Lincoln Ave.
"Bookbound" centers on Jack, a painter played by Labberton, and David, a banker played by Vance Jennings, whose 30-year friendship is rooted in their love of books.
Performances continue at 8 p.m. Saturday, next Thursday, Friday and Saturday (May 1-May 3) and May 8-10.
Tickets cost $15 for general admission and $12 for seniors and students and are available through the Warehouse Theatre box office, 966-0951. Box office hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and noon-6 p.m. Saturdays.
Friday, April 25-Sunday, April 27
* It's spring -- believe it or not -- which means it's time for the Spring Garden Fest at Bella Terra Gardens.
The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Bella Terra, 660 Bella Terra Road, Zillah.
The Garden Ladies at Rosehill, who specialize in naturally and organically grown produce, are hosting the fest. Featured will be local artists and vendors selling a variety of hand-made products including birdhouses, wind chimes, outdoor fire pits, local cookbooks and gourmet products.
Thursday, May 1
* Calling all soul men: Grab your shades and head down to Jack-Sons Sports Bar for the weekly open blues and jazz jam, which has been attracting all kinds of local blues men. (Which more than likely confused the regular Jack-Sons crowd.)
The jam runs from 6-11 p.m. Thursdays in the back bar at Jack-Sons, 432 S. 48th Ave.
* Leading off two early May events presented by the Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association is the Mexican dance troupe Ballet Folklorico "Quetzalli" de Veracruz.
Named for the colorful quetzal bird, Ballet Folklorico "Quetzalli" performs dances from seven regions of Mexico, including a distinctive version of La Bamba from its home state of Veracruz. Alongside the dancers, traditional music is performed live on authentic stringed instruments.
The performance is at 7:30 p.m. at Capitol Theatre, 19 S. Third St.
Tickets cost $5 and $7.50 and are available through TicketsWest, 800-325-7328 or www.ticketswest.com. Also presented by the Capitol, all proceeds benefit the Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association.
Friday, May 2
* The next day, the Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association presents its second-annual dinner and concert fundraiser, Fiesta en Mayo.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at The Seasons, 101 N. Naches Ave., with a traditional Mexican dinner provided by Fiesta Foods. Margaritas, wine and beer will also be available. A concert by Mexican folk group Bola Suriana follows at 8 p.m.
Tickets cost $50 and include dinner, the concert and one beverage, plus a complimentary ticket to the Ballet Folklorico "Quetzalli" de Veracruz performance the night before. (Which means you probably should buy your tickets in advance.)

Sunday, May 4
* Yakima's Cinco de Mayo celebration will be capped with a downtown parade, organized by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The parade begins at 1 p.m., starting from Yakima Avenue at East Eighth Street and ending on Third Street. It will feature Mexican cowboys (charros) and their horses.
