Sean Hawkins, executive director of The Committee For Downtown Yakima, will resign next month to take a management position with Block By Block, a downtown revitalization agency in Louisville, Ky.
James Stickel, board president and vice president of sales at the Yakima Herald-Republic, said in a statement that Hawkins is “leaving an organization that now has a stable funding base, an effective clean and safe program and the support of many of the downtown businesses and property owners.”
Stickel credited Hawkins with shepherding the establishment of a new Business Improvement District through the petition and adoption process, bringing businesses together for the increasingly successful First Fridays program, developing a downtown wine and dining guide, helping establish a new parking commission and starting the process for a comprehensive downtown plan.
A search committee has been formed to find a successor.
