UNION GAP -- A fire destroyed a home Wednesday night in the 4000 block of Hawk's Landing, but the homeowner escaped without injury, officials said.
Initial reports indicated that more people might have been in the house, but that was unfounded, authorities said. The 40-year-old homeowner was not hurt.
The cause of the fire, which was reported about 8 p.m., remained under investigation, said Capt. Christy Boisselle of the West Valley Fire Department.
Firefighters responded quickly because many were already at their stations for a drill night, but the fire was burning heavily within the first few minutes, Boisselle said.
Water had to be delivered by truck to the scene, which sits on the north face of Ahtanum Ridge off McCullough Road.
