Richard Rodney Penner

Richard Rodney Penner, 57, of Yakima died Wednesday in Yakima.

Mr. Penner was born in Newton, Kan.

He worked as a muffler installer for 23 years at Bonnie and Clyde's Muffler Center in Yakima.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Penner of Yakima; a son, Richard Penner of Seattle; three sisters, Susie Davis and Dorothy Shipman, both of Emporia, Kan., and Dianna Brenn of Parsons, Kan.; his mother, Martha Penner of Emporia; and one grandchild.

Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Nazarene Church in Yakima.

 

Jack M. King

Jack M. King, 99, of Yakima died Tuesday in Yakima.

Mr. King was born in Seattle. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He practiced law in Yakima for 42 years as a deputy prosecutor, assistant city attorney, judge pro-tem and private attorney.

Survivors include his wife, Natalie King of Yakima; and a son, Anthony King of Yakima.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Keith and Keith Funeral Home Ninth Avenue Chapel in Yakima. Private burial will follow.

 

Elva Salt

Elva Salt, 103, of Yakima died Tuesday in Yakima.

She was born in Northville, S.D.

She was a school teacher in Spokane for more than 30 years. She lived in Yakima for the past 30 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Esta Petersen of Yakima, Patricia Charles of Mercer Island, Wash., and Suzanne Clark of Richland; and eight grandchildren.

Services are planned for next spring.

Keith and Keith Funeral Home of Yakima is handling cremation arrangements.

 

Donna Mae Layman

Donna Mae Layman, 76, of Gresham, Ore., died Saturday in Gresham.

She was born in Yakima and lived here through college. She lived in Hood River, Ore., for more than 40years before moving recently to Gresham to be with her son.

She worked for 33 years as the administrative assistant to the Hood River County commissioners.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Schmidt of Hood River and Robyn Simpson of Gresham; a son, William Layman of Gresham; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hood River. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's.

Omega Funeral & Cremation Services of Portland is handling arrangements.

 

John H. Rutherford

John H. Rutherford, 86, of Yakima died Wednesday at Landmark Care Center in Yakima.

Mr. Rutherford was born in Yakima.

He farmed in Yakima and then moved to Grandview, where he grew hops and grapes. He moved back to Yakima in the early 1980s. He was also a manager for Washington Hop Producers.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Rutherford of Yakima; two daughters, Jan Johnson of Selah and Pam Rutherford of Yakima; a brother, Dean Rutherford of Yakima; a sister, Doris McCort of Seattle; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel in Yakima. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ahtanum Pioneer Church in Yakima, with concluding services at West Hills Memorial Park.
