Here are this week's volunteer needs in the Yakima Valley:
* CHILD ADVOCATES: Volunteers are needed to be advocates for abused and neglected children in our community. If you are willing to commit time to make a difference in the life of a child, we will train you to act as an independent advocate.
CASA volunteers have a variety of professional, educational and ethnic backgrounds. No special experience is required. Volunteers are selected on the basis of their objectivity, competence and commitment.
Call Anna Martinez at Yakima County Juvenile Court CASA at 574-2068.
* HOMETOWN MENTORS: Davis High School is looking for Hometown Mentors. Mentors work throughout remainder of a student's junior and senior year to guide high potential, low-income students applying for college.
Mentors need to be at least 21, value higher education, appreciate cultural diversity and have the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. All potential mentors must fill out an application and have a criminal background check.
For more information, call Sirena Phillips 574-1933.
* CONCERT HELPERS: The Seasons Performance Hall needs volunteers, from teens to seniors, to help at concerts. Volunteers will help sell tickets or refreshments, assist the artists, welcome concert-goers -- then enjoy the music. Help is also needed with occasional mailings and placing posters around town.
The Seasons is in downtown Yakima, 101 S. Naches Ave. Visit its Web site at www.seasonsmusicfestival.com.
Contact Judy at judy@theseasonsyakima.com or 453-1888 for more information.
* Volunteer Opportunities is prepared by Sirena Phillips, volunteer coordinator of Yakima's Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Contact her at 574-1933, 120 S. Third St. Suite 200B, Yakima, WA 98901, or sirena.phillips@co.yakima.wa.us.
