Washington state added more than 35,000 voters to its rolls in the past week, and nearly a fourth of them are younger than 25.
The Secretary of State’s office said the majority of those new voters are in just seven of the state’s 39 counties, and nearly half are in King and Pierce counties.
State residents who aren’t registered or want to change to a new address have until today to do that. It can be done by mail, online or in person at the Yakima County Auditor’s Office, which will be open from 4 to 5 p.m. today.
There is some leeway for voters who are not already registered in Washington — they can register in person at the county auditor’s office until Oct. 18.
Registration can be done online through the state Secretary of State’s office or by filling out a form available at the Yakima County Auditor’s office. The forms also are available at libraries, schools and other public buildings throughout the county.
To register in Washington, a person must be a United States citizen, a legal resident of the state, and at least 18 years old by Election Day.
