Goldendale celebrates over holiday weekend with Community Days

GOLDENDALE -- The Jaycees 34th annual Demolition Derby at the Klickitat County Fairgrounds today kicks off a weekend of activities to celebrate Goldendale Community Days.

Most of the activities for the three-day celebration take place Saturday. Activities start at 7:30 a.m. with registration for the 5K/10K run/walk, which starts at 8:30 a.m. from Columbia River Bank, 202 W. Main St.

Also on Saturday:

* 9 a.m. Community Days car show registration (Goldendale Motorsports Association: 509-773-3677 or 509-773-7137)

* 9:30 a.m. The Goldendale art gallery Australian Aboriginal art exhibit opens

* 10 a.m. Parade on Columbus, hosted by the Jaycees

The Klickitat County Historical Society's 12th annual quilt show opens.

* 11 a.m. Free inflatable rides on the courthouse lawn until 2 p.m.

Entertainment and viewing of car show vehicles on Main Street

* 2 p.m. Beer and wine social hour at The Golden Art Gallery

* 3 p.m. Award ceremony for car show

* 4:30 p.m. Down Under dinner by chef Dave Burke (Tickets will be available that evening at the Golden Art Gallery; tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children.)

* 9 p.m. Dance and beer garden hosted by the Jaycees at the fairgrounds

On Sunday, the second annual Community Talent Show hosted by the Chamber of Commerce starts at 1 p.m. The contest will be held in a lot next to the art gallery. For more information about Community Days events, call the Chamber of Commerce at 509-773-3400.
