State dance championships conclude

YAKIMA -- The Washington State Dance and Drill Championships finished Saturday with competion for Class 1A, 2A and 3A schools at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Selah High School's pom team received a superior rating for its performance, while West Valley High School's pom team received an excellent rating.

Here are the results for the trophy winners:

3A Dance: First place, Hanford (Richland)

1A/2A Dance: First, Tumwater

1A/2A/3A Prop/production/color guard: First, Kamiakin (Kennewick)

1A/2A/3A Kick: First, Hanford; second, Yelm

1A/2A/3A Drill: First, Newport (Bellevue); second, Sammamish (Bellevue); third, Hazen (Renton); fourth, Interlake (Bellevue)

3A Hip-hop: First, Southridge (Kennewick); second, Columbia River (Vancouver); third, Shorecrest (Shoreline)

Fire destroys West Valley mobile home

YAKIMA -- Two residents avoided injury in a fire that destroyed their West Valley home Saturday evening.

The singlewide mobile home at 871 West Slavin Road was engulfed in flames by the time the first firefighters arrived after the 5:17 p.m. alarm, said Capt. Joe Spear of the West Valley Fire Department.

The structure and two cars parked in front were destroyed. Firefighters were not able to determine the cause of the fire, Spear said.
