WAPATO — Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a construction company’s shop just north of town early Sunday.
About 4:30 a.m., firefighters responded to the blaze in the 7200 block of Yakima Valley Highway and found the shop belonging to Muffett and Sons Construction full of smoke and flames, according to a Yakima County Fire District 5 news release.
It took 25 firefighters from four Lower Valley stations about two hours to get the blaze under control, the release said.
The structure was being used to store tools and equipment, the release said.
There were no injuries and the building was destroyed. Damage is estimated at $200,000, the release said.
While the cause of the fire wasn’t known, it isn’t considered arson, firefighters said.
