WAPATO — A Lower Valley man whose body was found earlier this week on a remote dirt road west of Wapato died of two gunshot wounds to the head, Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins said following an autopsy Thursday.

The man was identified as Alan Moses, 35, of the Wapato or Toppenish area.

His death marks Yakima County’s first homicide of the year.

Moses’ body was found Wednesday on a remote stretch of Kays Road west of Wapato. Authorities said at the time that the body bore clear evidence of trauma to the head.

A spokesman for the FBI, which is investigating, said agents continue to explore a possible link between Moses and a man who was treated for gunshot wounds Wednesday at Toppenish Community Hospital.

“We can’t link the two yet,” FBI spokesman Frank Harrill said, “but obviously the timing is of great interest.”
