Pena makes it to state

SPOKANE — Elijah Pena is headed back to Tacoma.

The Sunnyside junior placed second in the 110-meter hurdles at Saturday’s Class 3A regional meet at Spokane Falls Community College. Pena clocked 15.65 to make the cut for state, which was the top two placers in each event.

Teammate Eric Amaro, who placed second in the discus on Friday, came up just short in the javelin on Saturday, placing third in his bid for a third consecutive trip to state in that event.

Sunnyside’s Brittney Broersma also narrowly missed, finishing third in the 300 hurdles.
