Setting the stage for next week’s showdown with Naches Valley, Zillah leaned on its two veteran pitchers to remain unbeaten in SCAC West softball with a sweep over La Salle on Tuesday.

Senior Kristale Treece threw a three-hit shutout in the opener and junior Alexcis Higginbotham scattered four hits in the second game as the Leopards prevailed 6-0, 14-5 at La Salle.

Improving to 10-0 in the SCAC West and 15-3 overall, Zillah will host second-place Naches Valley (9-1) next Tuesday in the final regular-season games.

La Salle concluded its league campaign at 6-6 and will take the West’s No. 4 seed into the district tournament, which starts on May 22. Cle Elum (9-3) has also locked up a district berth.

Treece struck out five and walked one in the opener and went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and RBI.

Higginbotham fanned seven with two walks in the second game, which saw Zillah break out for 16 hits.

Jaclyn Olivas was 3 for 3 with three runs scored, freshmen Natalie Benson and Trista Takes Enemy had three hits apiece and catcher Liz Godina drove in three runs.
