CLE ELUM, Wash. — Five people were rescued this weekend after their boat got stuck on rocks in the Cle Elum River, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The incident took place shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday, when authorities received a report of a jet boat stuck on rocks about 300 yards south of the French Cabin Creek Bridge, which is some 15 miles northwest of the town of Cle Elum in the Wenatchee National Forest.
Because of the speed of the river current, the county’s swift water rescue unit was called out. Using an Achilles boat, which is able to operate in extremely shallow water, rescuers were able to remove all four occupants from the river and get them safely to shore, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Sheriff deputies remained on scene for the removal of the boat by its owner.
