Melvin J. Schutz, 94, of Toppenish died Monday in Yakima.
Mr. Schutz was born outside of Ritzville and raised outside of Toppenish. He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 and worked for his family’s farms in Toppenish and Ritzville. He went to work for Del Monte in 1946 and worked 36 years without a sick day. He retired as a fieldman/buyer.
Schutz is survived by his wife, Delta, of Toppenish; a daughter, Cheryl Affholter of Yakima; a son, Rick Schutz of Toppenish; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at Colonial Funeral Home, Toppenish. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the A.J. Strom Gymnasium in Toppenish. Interment will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.
