I am an unabashed Christmas baker. I love making Christmas treats. I’ve also still bought into the old-fashioned notion that you can only make these treats once a year, because otherwise they won’t be special.

So this my month. My month to make Jam Thumbprints, batch after batch after ridiculous batch of fudge, caramels and Muddy Buddies (you know, that chocolate Chex Mix -- I made a batch tonight.

But sometimes you need to shake up the routine a little. So I bring you this absolutely adorable recipe I found in a Parents magazine that I stole from my doctor’s office. I’ve got a few more I might trot out later this week.

This one is for tortilla snowflakes — super cute, super easy and a blast for your kiddos.

First, take a bunch of tortillas — the recipe says 7 to 8-inch whole wheat ones, but really, whatever. Bigger ones will be easier to fold. Heat them 10 seconds one-at-a-time until they are soft. Fold in half, in half again, and in half again to make a wedge. Use a pair of kitchen scissors and cut shapes out of your wedges, just like you would a paper snowflake.

Unfold the tortilla and place on a cookie sheet. Brush with canola oil. Place in a 400 degree oven for 5 to 8 minute, until crispy and light brown. Remove from oven and put on a wire rack. Spritz lightly with spray butter and then sprinkle with powdered sugar. To add more flavor, sprinkle with brown sugar, nutmeg or cinnamon.
