YAKIMA — Yakima Herald-Republic education reporter Rafael Guerrero gives viewers the rundown on charter schools on this week’s Open Mike.
In Washington, home schooling and private schools had been the only alternatives to public education. But that is soon to change because voters last fall narrowly approved a measure allowing charter schools.
Now, nonprofits throughout the state and in the Yakima Valley are preparing proposals to hopefully land some of the first coveted charter school slots.
Open Mike is a Web broadcast that takes you inside the Herald-Republic newsroom, where reporter Mike Faulk speaks with other members of the staff to gain their perspectives on a newsworthy event or an aspect of the newsroom operation.
Each segment is available by noon Wednesday at yakimaherald.com.
