Luis Lara Cordero, 61, of Selah died Saturday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Lara Cordero was born in El Gato Negro, Chihuahua, Mexico. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He lived in Spokane and Los Angeles before moving to the Yakima Valley. He taught in the Yakima, Wapato and East Valley school districts. He retired in January from Junior Achievement Washington due to illness.

Survivors include his wife, Alison Cordero of Selah; a son, Cory Cordero of Portland; a stepson, Ryan Childs of Pullman; his mother, Frances Cordero of Yakima; two sisters, Raquel Cordero of Yakima and Gladys Cordero of Corona, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Junior Achievement World, Terrace Heights. Arrangements are by Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
