NINE MILE FALLS — A year didn’t change much between La Salle and Lakeside in the Class 1A state girls soccer tournament.

Grace Martin fired in two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Lightning to a 4-1 victory over Lakeside, a year after beating the Eagles 5-0 in the first round.

La Salle struck quickly as Martin set up Deanna Avalos for a goal just two minutes into the match. Martin, a junior, struck in the 15th minute and then assisted Emma Avalos three minutes later as La Salle bolted out to a 3-0 lead.

“We talked about not wasting opportunities and the girls did a great job with that,” said La Salle coach Felix Hernandez. “We scored on three of our first four shots and that’s the way we want to finish.”

Martin knocked in her 24th goal of the season in the second half. Goalkeeper Hannah Zeutenhorst had seven saves.

La Salle (17-3) advances to the quarterfinals and will play Seattle Christian (18-0) on Saturday at 6 p.m. at French Field in Kent.
