YAKIMA, Wash. — The Rec Room Bar & Grill has closed after nearly two years in business.

“I regret to inform you that I have decided to close The Rec Room Bar & Grill permanently, due to the overwhelming restrictions put upon my business from the Glenwood Square building management,” owner Anthony J. Davis wrote Tuesday on the restaurant’s Facebook page, referring to the shopping center at 5110 Tieton Drive where his restaurant was located.

Davis opened the Rec Room Bar & Grill in early 2011. Its key offering was a number of free entertainment options that included karaoke, comedy and live music.

In his Facebook post, Davis went into detail on several issues that he said made it challenging to operate, including a lack of access to a storage area in the basement of Glenwood Square and requests to turn down the volume of live music.

Davis could not be reached by phone for further comment.

Glenwood Square manager Bernice Monahan said Davis did not give notice he was closing and that she found out second-hand he had moved out on Monday.

Monahan said Davis’ post, as detailed as it was, did not mention that restrictions on volume were made after she received complaints and that the restaurant was eventually given storage space elsewhere.

The restaurant also owed about $12,000 in back rent and utilities, she said.

“I have a problem (with Davis) not telling the whole truth,” Monahan said.

In the Facebook post, Davis indicated that he plans to host entertainment in other venues, but he did not indicate whether he would open another restaurant.

Meanwhile, Glenwood Square will start looking for a new tenant for the 2,700-square-foot space, Monahan said.
