Virginia “Ginny” Stevens Ritter, 99, of Anaheim, Calif., died Monday. Mrs. Ritter was born in Yakima. She served in the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office for more than 25 years. She became the highest-ranking woman law enforcement officer in criminal work in the state when she was promoted to chief criminal deputy in 1974.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Nelson of Orange, Calif., and Terry Nelson of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors, Yakima.
