Andrew Raab finished in a tie for ninth place in the Boys 16-17 age division in the 37th Washington Junior Golf State Championship contested July 31 through Aug 2 at three Tacoma-area courses.

Raab, who will be a senior at East Valley High School starting this fall, turned in rounds of 73-71-75 for a 219 total, 13 shots behind Orting’s Joseph Harvie and Lakewood’s Gregory Gildea. Harvie beat Gildea in a playoff to claim the title.

In the Boys 14-15 division, Yakima’s Holden Backes held the first-round lead after an opening 69, but he wound up in a tie for 16th place at 236 (69-84-83).

Ten other area golfers took part in the championship, which was played at The Home Course, Eagles Pride and Meadow Park golf courses.
