Lucille “Wowalwy” Alberta Yallup, 66, of Wapato died Thursday in Yakima. Ms. Yallup was born in Redmond, Ore., and was a member of the Yakama Nation. She was the first Yakama to become a teacher in Washington state. She worked as a director for the Yakama Nation Headstart Program for over 30 years.
Survivors include two sons, Dixon Polk Sr. and Michael Pole, both of Wapato; a daughter, Patrena Colwash-Yallup of Yakima; three sisters, Geraldine Jim, Diretha Jim and Debra Jim; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Burial service will be at 7:30 a.m. today in the 1910 Shaker Church Cemetery in White Swan. Arrangements are by Merritt Funeral Home, Wapato.
