Laurel “Sonny” J. Hopper Jr., 70, of Yakima died Monday. Mr. Hopper was born in Gassville, Ark., and served in the Navy. The family settled in Yakima before moving to Grandview in 1972. He worked various jobs with Anderson Motors, New Holland, Case Equipment, Simplot and eventually started his own business, Valley Agriculture in Sunnyside. He lived in Yakima for the past 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hopper of Yakima; a brother, Garry Hopper of Sunnyside; two sons, David Hopper of Bonney Lake and Stephen Hopper of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Brenda Armstrong of Grandview; a step-son, Chris Tucker of Grandview; two step-daughters, Kathy Hurst and Andi Greer, both of Sunnyside; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside Military service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens of Sunnyside. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home of Sunnyside.
