YAKIMA, Wash. — A Yakima man faces criminal charges in connection with a traffic crash that killed his 1-year-old daughter.

Heriberto Rodriguez Acosta, 21, was booked into the Yakima County jail Thursday morning after being charged last week with vehicular homicide.

Nevaeh Acosta of Toppenish died at the scene of the Aug. 16 crash, which happened about a mile west of Buena. State troopers said she was the lone passenger in a Volkswagen Jetta that left Yakima Valley Highway near Konnowac Pass Road. The car rolled and struck a tree.

Toxicology tests showed that Rodriguez Acosta had been using alcohol and methamphetamine, according to a report filed to support the arrest warrant.

Rodriguez Acosta, who was also charged with having a suspended or revoked driver’s license, remains in the Yakima County jail. His bail is set at $100,000.

He had been treated for serious injuries at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
