MOSES LAKE, Wash. — A Moses Lake man and a 13-year-old girl were killed Saturday when a semi truck driven by an Ellensburg man turned in front of their car on State Route 17.

Christian G. Schuermann, 40, and Aschlie D. Schuermann were pronounced dead after the 9:07 a.m. crash. It was not known if they were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

A Washington State Patrol report did not give their relationship, and a dispatcher said she couldn’t release any more information than was provided in the news release.

The Schuermanns’ relatives were notified at the scene by a State Patrol sergeant.

The driver of the 1995 Peterbilt truck that struck the Schuermann’s car was not injured.

Christian Schuermann was driving a blue, two-door 1958 Ford Thunderbird north on SR 17, four miles north of Moses Lake, when the semi pulling two flatbed trailers turned into his lane, the State Patrol said.

Orvil L. Magruder, 31, of Ellensburg was southbound on the highway when he tried to make a left turn onto Northlake Road N.E. His truck hit the front of the Ford.

The roadway was blocked until 1:45 p.m.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash before deciding if charges against the truck driver are warranted.
