UNION GAP, Wash. — An additional public meeting on a plan to reduce flood threats on Ahtanum Creek near South 42nd Avenue and Emma Lane west of Union Gap will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at West Valley Junior High School.

The purpose of this second meeting will focus on flood mapping and potential impacts to properties in the area of South 37th Avenue and downstream on Ahtanum Creek. The meeting is in response to requests from those who attended an initial meeting on the plan.

Yakima County is eligible for a $1.1 million Federal Emergency Management Agency flood hazard reduction grant to deal with persistent flooding on Ahtanum Creek.

The county is proposing to install a larger bridge over Ahtanum Creek at 42nd Avenue to better handle high water volumes and installation of two overflow channels to carry high water away from the creek.

The junior high is at 7505 Zier Road.
