YAKIMA, Wash. — Two Yakima residents escaped a house fire without injury Thursday night in the 1900 block of Sliger Road, according to news release from the Yakima Fire Department.

Cause of the fire, which resulted in an estimated $100,000 worth of damage, remains under investigation.

Firefighters responded around 10:45 p.m. and had the fire under control within minutes, the release said.

One room was destroyed and the rest of the home sustained heat and smoke damage, the release said.

The two occupants, who were outside the house when the first of 16 firefighters arrived, are receiving help from Yakima chapter of the American Red Cross, the release said.

Sliger Road is east of South 18th Street and about a block north of Nob Hill Boulevard.
