TOPPENISH, Wash. — The body of an unidentified man was found just outside Toppenish’s city limits Saturday, the apparent victim of a homicide, the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office says.
According to a sheriff’s office news release issued late Saturday night, Toppenish police received a report of a body located in the 900 block of Washington Street. Police said it appeared the man had a head injury, and they turned the case over to the sheriff’s office for investigation after determining the body was outside their jurisdiction.
The release did not say when Toppenish police were called to the scene. However, it noted that neighborhood residents did not notice the body during the daytime.
The sheriff’s office said the victim is Hispanic and believed to be in his 20s or early 30s. He was wearing gray sweatpants and a black shirt with a “Los Angeles” logo.
An autopsy will be performed today. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 509-574-2500, or Crime Stoppers Yakima County at 800-222-TIPS.
