Downtown Yakima’s annual Cinco de Mayo cultural fiesta will take place Saturday and Sunday on Yakima Avenue.
The event, scheduled to open at 10 a.m. both days and run until 9 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday, will feature a parade, dancing, a soccer tournament, car show and the crowning of Yakima’s Ms. Cinco de Mayo 2013.
The event will span from First Street to Third Street along Yakima Avenue and to the parking lot behind Millennium Plaza, where the car show will be staged from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Saturday morning events will be kicked off with an introduction of the Ms. Cinco de Mayo royal court and a speech by the Seattle-based Mexican consulate Alejandro Garcia Moreno at the main stage by the intersection of Second Street and Yakima Avenue. Musical and dance groups will perform on the stage throughout the day and into the evening.
The soccer tournament, for both youth and adults, will last from Saturday to Sunday and will be held between First and Second streets.
A charro parade featuring horse riders in traditional decorative Mexican garb will commence at 1 p.m. Sunday, with a horse show to follow at 1:30 p.m.
Yakima’s Ms. Cinco de Mayo will be crowned at 2 p.m. Sunday.
