Fred James Walter, 89, of Yakima died Feb. 14. Mr. Walter was born in Grants Pass, Ore., and moved to Cowiche in 1928, then to the Lower Valley in 1936. He served in the Coast Guard. He later drove truck in the Crescent City, Calif., area before moving to Seattle. He drove for Keller’s Supply for 15 years. After retirement he went to work at Frank’s Tire in Union Gap.
Survivors include his companion, Betty Gilley of Yakima; two sons, Sean and Paul; two daughters, Shannon and Erin, all of the Puget Sound area; two sisters, Clarice Grove of Grandview and Bess Frank of Yakima; and a brother, Frank of Boise, Idaho.
A celebration of life will be in the spring. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside.
