GLEED, Wash. — A man who accidentally shot himself in the arm Wednesday night tried to drink the pain away, but it didn’t work, according to Yakima County sheriff’s deputies.
The man, who is 24 and lives with his mother on Stark Road, showed up at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday with a gunshot wound to the bicep, Chief of Detectives Stew Graham said Thursday.
According to Graham, the man told deputies he was injured after he dropped a .22-caliber rifle in the garage and tried to grab it, causing it to discharge.
This all happened about 7:30 p.m., four hours before he arrived at the hospital, Graham said.
“The important part is that he’d had some beers beforehand. Then, after he shot himself, he had some more beers,” Graham said. “Eventually he decided to go to the hospital.”
The wound was not life-threatening, Graham added. The case is considered closed.
